First Therapy Experience

If you’ve never attempted therapy before, first of all: congratulations! You’ll hopefully find it to feel like a relief and begin to cultivate the changes you need in your life. And second of all: thank you. We recognize that choosing a therapist is a big decision! So thank you you for choosing and trusting us. Here are a few thoughts Nicoletta would like to share on starting therapy:

I always tell my clients even before I meet them to come into the session room dressed comfy cozy and to bring their favorite drink (or favorite toy if the client is a child). Therapy is hard work and thinking about being vulnerable in tight jeans and a fancy top sounds awful, personally.

Another thing I find myself saying is that you don’t have to apologize for crying, getting emotional, getting loud because you’re angry or passionate about something. Therapy is the place to be messy, and your therapist is not thinking that you’re off your rocker.

We get it. We hear it. We want to you feel you can process unashamed of any opinion or words you may have.

It’s not supposed to be like the movies or stigmas we all hear. Therapy usually does not look like a scheduled, perfect list of things to check off. It changes and swerves, and you may leave feeling better one day, confused the next, relieved the next, resentful the next, empowered the next. All of it is a win. It’s all progress. It’s all healing. Just keep coming. Just keep talking. You’re doing great. And you’re being rooted on the whole way.

Your therapist is always in your corner, holding up signs in the stands cheering you on to your best self! It’s so great to be a part of your healing and an honor to hear your story. What a privilege!

You matter and we don’t take it lightly that we get to be the ones to tell you.
