Grief is for more than death
When you think of or look up a definition of ‘grief,’ it’s typically thought of as “deep sorrow, especially that caused by someone's death.” But it’s such a specific feeling isn’t it? And I don’t know about you, but I’ve felt it WAY more often than exclusively around death.
How many different types of grief are you aware of besides death?
Grief Recovery defines grief as: “the conflicting feelings caused by the end of or change in a familiar pattern of behavior.” I really like this definition because it’s so true. It's similar to just feeling LOST.
A few good examples of grief that is not related to death are:
• Loneliness
• Loss of an identity
• A dream never realized
• Estrangement
• Over-empathy
• Change/Transition
• Hopelessness
• Guilt
• Job loss
• Break-up
• Loss of a pet
• Empty nest
• Moving
• Infertility
• Chronic pain
• Perceived failure
I’m sure there are many more, but it’s helpful to label and articulate some. Each of these are valid losses. We all experience many, but sometimes we are unable to digest these experiences fully.
Let's get the support we need to learn how to grieve without becoming lost in it.
A support group where ALL are welcome. Saturdays (just after the Ligonier Farm Market!), May 20 - June 10 from 1:00-2:30pm at the Loyalhanna Watershed Barn/Farm.
4 in-depth workshops for anyone who is struggling with life changes. We will gather to share our stories, move, breathe, journal, pray and connect. We will explore inside and out (both literally and figuratively), to support the mind, nourish the body and awaken an aching soul.
All are welcome, classes will be small and intimate and all are physically and spiritually inclusive. Please bring a journal, yoga mat or blanket + any favorite props, pillows or cushions.
Preregister for all 4 workshops for $150 via Venmo. Space is limited.
